Condition Of Book: This is a Very Good Copy of this Book in Contemporary red cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine and with gilt design of a gathering of trees to the upper cover.Spine colour iof the book is dulled and there is some wear and light chipping to cloth at both head and tail of spine.Illustrated with some 22 plates including map of part of morocco and with the plan of the city of morocco needing to be re-tioped back into the book.This copy has one former owner’s bookplate to the blank front pastedown and is of ‘John Speak’ and reads in Latin Spectemur Agendo and roughly translates ‘Let me be judged by my actions’ The binding of the book  remains firm with no hinge weakness,slight cracking though along rear hinge join only but still binding strong and firm among all the page gatherings.The text block remains delightfully clean and bright.8vo (xv) 354pp Second Edition [1891] 

The Moors: The Arabs invaded Morocco in 683, inspired to spread their new religion Islam. In 786 Arab leader, Idriss the 1st, who claimed direct descent from the Prophet Mohammad, arrived it  marked the beginning of the end of the Roman city.The local Berber tribes converted from Christianity and Idriss the 1st was buried in the hilltop town of Moulay Idriss, just three kilometres away. It’s still to this day regarded as one of Morocco’s most holy sites. Then a small force of Arab and Berber warriors embarked series of raids across the Strait of Gibraltar into Southern Spain.
