Description

Author: F Spencer Chapman Title: Northern Lights The Official Account of the British Arctic Air-Route Expedition 1930-1931Publication: First UK Edition 1st Impression Published By Chatto & Windus London 1932………………….(See Pictures) Condition Of Book: This is a Good Only Copy of this Book in Publisher’s light blue cloth with written paper label to spine. There are a few marks to the outer boards. There are several maps and 63 plates. This has one previous inscription present to the front endpaper and is rather interesting as it reads………. ” For my adopted father & mother for Christmas 1933,including ’32 & probably ’34 & ’35 in token of my esteem & thanks from Quintin ” We are not certain but this inscription could possibly be from Lt Commander Quintin Riley.Riley who was an Arctic explorer that took part in the British Arctic Air Route Expedition, 1932-33 East Greenland Expedition, 1934-37 British Graham Land Expedition and much more.It was said that the life of this Cornishman formed part Ian Fleming’s inspiration behind his suave spy James Bond. His pioneering work very much paved the way for transatlantic air travel.he died tragically in a car accident in 1980.The book has a little weakness to the title page and frontispiece.Contents remain clean internally. We cannot say for certain that this ‘Quintin’ is lt Commander Quintin Riley’s signature? and inscription but feel that there is a strong possibility that it is judging by the nature and wording of the inscription and his close association with Gino Watkins.Thick 4to 304pp with folding map to rear of volume First Edition [1932]                                                                                                          Free UK Postage                                                             We are members of the P.B.F.A.
