Barratt O’Hara : From Figg To Johnson A Complete History of the Heavyweight Championship,Containing Dates and Accurate Descriptions of Every Contest For The World’s Boxing Title From The Time of The First Champion Down To The Present Day First US Edition 1st Impression Published By The Blossom Book Bourse Chicago Illinois USA 1909………… This copy is Limited To Just One Thousand Copies and this very rare boxing title has been Signed and Inscribed by the Author Barratt O’Hara on the Front Endpaper………………..  (see pictures) Condition Of Book: : This is a Good Copy of this book in original red hardcover cloth with black title lettering to spine and upper cover.There is a little fraying to the cloth at base of spine and with one tear of 6mm in length to the head of spine.The book has two previous ownership stamps to the front pastedown and to the top edge of the front endpaper.This copy has been Signed and Inscribed by The Author on the front endpaper and the recipient is Edwin T. Breen a Lawyer.The lengthy inscription reads ” To Edwin T.Breen with best wishes to a distinguished always and public official who ranks high among the boxing fans of modern times Barratt O’Hara Chicago Nov 7th 1940 ” The book has 2 pages of plates at the front of the book that feature portraits and a brief synopsis of Fighters ” James Figg,George Taylor,John Broughton and John Slack.There is a some stitching showing through at the front and rear gutter hinge joins,other than that the book has a firm binding with NO hinge weakness.There are NO loose pages etc.Internally the text block is clean and free from foxing with just a little light tanning in evidence to the page edges.There are just a couple of small external marks to the front board and with corners a little knocked and frayed to extremities.(Hartley Bibliography 1496) This is an extremely rare copy and certainly a desirable copy for the collector of rare boxing books,8vo (octavo) and with dedication to James Coffroth world famous boxing promoter,179pp Limited To 1000 Copies [1909] Barratt O’Hara : (April 28, 1882 – August 11, 1969) He was a Democratic US Congresman From Illionois and a War Veteran he also served as a Corporal in Company I 33rd Michigan Volunteer Infantry at the siege of Santiago.He became the Sporting Editor of St Louis Chronicle in 1902 and was admitted to the Bar in 1912 and began to practice Law in Chicago.During the First World War he served as a Major with the Eightieth and Twelfth Infantry Divisions and later as divisional judge advocate of the Fifteenth Division.He died in 1969 N.B.
