This is a Very Good + Copy of this Book in Publisher’s burgundy coloured cloth with gilt title lettering to the spine and with gilt motif to the upper cover of Constantinople.With fresh clean charcoal gey Matt endpapers.This is a Rare signed copy from the Author Mijatovich and the rather charming inscription on blank endpaper reads……… ” To my dear friend Miss Elsie Peacock with every good wish for her happiness and with very sincere respect for her character Chedo Mijatovich The Author of this book April 9 1908 London ” Illustrated with 5 black and white plates erach with tissue guards and incoludes on page 158 the first naval battle of the Turks.Top edge of the book is in gilt,with other page edges untrimmed as called for.Binding remains firm with no hinge weakness.Rare signed title by Chedomil Mijatovich who was a Serbian statesman and Economist,Historian,Writer and diplomat.

Mijatović served as the Minister of Finance six times between 1873 and 1894 and as also as the Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1880 and 1881 and again from 1888 to 1889. He was one of the respected leaders of the Liberal Serbian Progressive Party and also served as the Minister plenipotentiary in Serbia to the Court of St James’s in 1884,85,1895 and 1901.He came to London in 1889 spent five years here and was committed to writing novels in Serbian based on gothic novels of Sir Walter Scott and historical works.He added to his fame by publishing a book entitled On Conditions for Success. In Britain, he became well known when he published a book on the last Byzantine Emperor Owing to this book he was elected to be an honorary member of the Royal Historical Society, being the first Serbian to attain such a distinction.It was in London, where Mijatoviic obtained introductions to the most celebrated writers in Britain and he became a contributor to the Encyclopeadia Britannica.8vo (xiv) 239pp First Edition (SIGNED COPY)
