(See Pictures) Condition Of Book: This is a Near Fine Copy of this book in a very handsome and contemporary half tan coloured calf binding over marbled boards with red moroocan label to spine lettered in gilt and with five raised bands to spine gilt ruled and what is believed to be the gilt armorial crest of the Buccleuch and Queensberry family with further ink armorial stamp to the half title page.I believe that the Family Crest is that of Walter Montagu Douglas Scott,the 5th Duke of Buccleuch and also the Seventh Duke of Queensberry.The book has no previous names or inscriptions present.The book has a lavish coloured frontispiece and a further 36 illustrations and three on steel folding plates at the end of the book which are of examples of ancient altar cloths from Steeple Aston in Oxon.Some of the other illustrations feature A Cope Chest from York Minster,a precious Mitre of William of Wykeham,a stained glass window from Much Hadam in Herts,pulpit and altar cloths from East Langdon Church and a woodcut of ‘The Adoration of the Magi’.The book has a firm binding with no loose pages and the contents remain generally clean internally with marbling to the page edges.This is an Uncommon title with 2 line erratum still present to the final page.Lovely copy especially with the Buccleuch/Queensberry Association,small 12mo which measures 14. cm by 10 cm (viii) 132pp plus 36 plates + 3 folding plates of ancient altar cloths….First Edition [1848] Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry: The Current Duke is Richard Walter John Montagu Douglas Scott and the 10th Duke of Buccleuch and also the 12th Duke of Queensberry,known as Lord Eskdaill until 1973 and as Earl of Dalkeith from 1973 until 2007,he is a Scottish landholder with over 200,000 acres and peer and was for many years head of the National Trust in Scotland.He is the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, as well as Chief of Clan ScottPostage: (Free Insurance Is Included)UK Postage: £3.50 Sent Royal Mail 48 Tracked 2-3 Working Days Air-Mail Tracked and With Insurance: £14.95 (Europe) 7-15 working days Air-Mail Tracked and With Insurance £14.95.
