Condition of Book: This is a Good Copy of this book in Original Cloth rebacked with spine laid down and lettered in gilt along spine.The large folding map at the end of the volume of Eastern Equuitorial Africa is present along with map on page 30 of The River Cali produced here in colour.Corners of the boards are frayed with slight wear along spine.Engraved portriat frontis of ‘Speke’ is present with tissue guard.No previous names or inscriptions are present.This is the First American Edition in a firm binding that has no loose gatherings.An odd foxing is present but contents remain remarkably clean and tidy.Dark green boards (xxx) 590pp plus folding map and adverts to rear.This is NOT the usual ex library copy.First US Edition 1st Impression [1864]
John Hanning Speke: John Hanning Speke was an English explorer and officer in the British Indian Army who made three exploratory expeditions to Africa. He is most associated with the search for the source of the Nile and was the first European to reach Lake Victoria.
