Condition Of Book: .11th Edition Stated to the Title Page.Beautiful Contemporary Quarter Brown Leather Binding over marbled boards with black moroccan title labels to spine lettered in gilt on the 2nd and 4th compartments to spine.New Clean fresh endpapers.This copy has a beauitiful coloured frontispiece of Grasmere engraved by Rob Havell and there is a coloured folding map of the Lakes incorporating Cumberland and Westmorland in very good order.Very firm binding with NO hinge weakness.There is an inprint of an erased former owner’s name to the top section of the Title Page.Contents remain very good with some age toning and foxing showing to the text block edges.Small smudge mark to the edges of pages 298-312.Still remains though a great copy for the collector in a very handsome binding that would suitably adorn any collector’s bookcase.11th Edition 8vo 312pp [1821]  Initially this work was published in 1778 the book was a major success and as well as being regarded aas the first guidebook to the Lakes,West was the first Author to challenge the view of the wild and reather savage North.It was influential at a time when Grand Tours were popular and it was the beginning of true tourism for the Lakes.The book ran to 7 editions before the turn of the Century,sadly West died before he completed his second account of the Lakes
