(See Pictures)Condition and Status of the Book: This is a Very Good Copy of this book in half green coloured leather over marbled boards with five raised bands to spine and with brown moroccan title label to the second compartment along spine.Small chip of 4mm to the label on spine.There is one former owner’s bookplate of ‘Fitzherbert’ to the front pastedown.A comprehensive and detailed work of Entomology with some 61 wonderful coloured plates each with tissue guards,though some of the tissue guards are a little crease and worn and foxed.The Author was an assistant in the Zoological Museum in the British Museum and the work is based upon Berge’s ‘Schmetterlingsbuch’ There is a little scattered foxing to the pre-lims and with just an odd foxing spot internally.New endpapers and with green linen protecting the hinge join so the binding remains tight and firm with NO cracking and with no loose plates or gatherings.The British species are marked with an asterisk.Wonderful study of the Macro-Lepidoptera aimed at covering the whole of Europe proper.There is also one black and white plate.Large and Heavy Quarto weight over 3KG so no international postage on this one.4to (lvi) 427pp First Edition [1882] We are PBFA Members and Adhere to their rule and guidance on selling
